A PIN is a unique 27 alpha-numeric code used to verify Windows Anytime Upgrade was purchased at a participating retailer. Customers will go to www.windows7.com/getkey
to exchange their PIN for an Upgrade Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key.
Is a PIN the same thing as a Product Key?
The PIN is printed inside the package that you purchased. To find your PIN, open the packaging and pull the tear away tab to expose the 27 character alpha-numeric code.

My PIN is not working, what should I do?
No. A PIN is used to verify Windows Anytime Upgrade was purchased at a participating retailer and is used to obtain a Product Key. The Product Key is used to add features to Windows 7. You cannot use a PIN to upgrade.
What is a Product Key?
If your PIN is not working, try the following:
Verify the PIN was entered correctly. PIN is not case sensitive and is alpha-numeric.
Make sure the PIN has not already been used to obtain a Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key. If the PIN has already been used, you can log into your account with your Microsoft account (if you established it when the PIN was first entered) to access your Product Key or you can check your email for the confirmation email you received when the PIN was first consumed to access your Product Key.

Do I need a Product Key to upgrade?
Product Keys are used to unlock functionality and add additional features to Windows 7. It is important to keep your Product Key in a safe place.
Why should I use my existing Windows Live Account or create a new one?
Yes. You will need your Product Key to upgrade.
Will you send me an email confirmation with my Product Key?
Using your existing Windows Live account or creating a new account will allow you to access your Product Key at any time online in the future. It is important to use an account and password that is familiar to you to allow you to obtain easy access to your information and to receive email confirmation that will include your Product Key.
What happens if I lose my Product Key?
Yes. An e-mail containing your Product Key will be sent to the e-mail address associated with your Microsoft account or to the e-mail you provided if you skipped account setup.
If you are using an e-mail spam blocker tool or junk mail filter, make sure you can receive e-mail messages from microsoft.com.
I registered all of my Microsoft software, why don't I see all of the product keys I own?
If you lose your Product Key you can return to www.windows7.com/getkey
and sign in using the 'Sign In' link in the top right corner of the page. This will retrieve your Product Key if you established your account with your Microsoft account. If you did not setup a Microsoft account account initially there is no record of your Product Key online. Check your e-mail since this is the only record of your Product Key.
Can I store all my Product Keys on this site?
This site is only used to store Product Keys for products purchased from a participating retailer and obtained with a PIN.
